In the last 6 years, Jonathan has been exceptionally active in the Nigerian power sector and has advised on a number of market-defining transactions, including the first fully project-financed IPP in Nigeria – the Azura 450MW IPP. He is widely regarded as a thought leader in the Nigerian electricity market, and a trusted advisor to key players across the sector value chain. He also has extensive experience advising on corporate finance and project finance transactions across a wide range of sectors, especially the infrastructure space; as well as oil and gas; manufacturing; and telecommunication. A broad-based commercial lawyer, Jonathan is also an expert on capital market transactions; mergers and acquisitions; and financial system supervision and regulation. Jonathan is a true multi-specialist and has, at different times, served as the Head of Department of various practice groups within the Firm, including the Banking & Finance Practice, Enterprise Practice and the Power & Infrastructure Practice.
A Pegasus Scholar of the Inner Temple Inns of Court, England, Jonathan graduated from the Nigerian Law School with First Class Honours and emerged as a multiple prize winner and the overall best candidate out of over 5,000 candidates at the 2005 Bar Examinations. He subsequently obtained an LL.M in Commercial Law from St. Edmunds College, University of Cambridge, and recently had a stint as a Visiting Senior Associate at Allen & Overy LLP, a global law firm, where he worked with the Projects and Banking & Finance groups.
