In a bid to protect investors in the capital market, the Federal Government is seeking to empower regulators by ensuring that there are high standards and a strong, fair, efficient and robust market. The Government has thus set up a committee to review the Investment and Securities Act (ISA) 2007. Dr. Konyinsola Ajayi (SAN), our Managing Partner, has been appointed the Chairman of this committee to review the ISA 2007. The existing regulatory and enforcement framework is be strengthened to avoid future breaches in securities law as contained in the ISA. This is in response to the global regulatory lapses that have been highlighted as a downside risk for the unusual market downturn. The review of the ISA 2007 will involve drawing out areas requiring amendment, reviewing international best practices regarding statutes governing the operations of the capital market and preparing a draft Investment and Securities Bill for presentation to the National Assembly.
