In response to the growing trend of tech-enabled companies seeking avenues for raising capital and its alternatives, our Technology, Innovation and Fintech team recently hosted the 2nd edition of its roundtable, bringing together key stakeholders to navigate these avenues.
At the roundtable, the session explored the shift from a traditional reliance on venture capital toward diversified funding mechanisms such as debt financing. The conversations also examined what capital readiness looks like for institutional investors, and why local currency financing is critical to reducing currency mismatch risks for Nigerian tech-based companies.

Why the funding conversation is changing
For over a decade, venture capital has been one of the defining forces behind Nigeria’s technology ecosystem. It funded growth and accelerated innovation. Moreover, it enabled Nigerian technology companies to scale across Africa and beyond.
However, market conditions have tightened and investor expectations have shifted. A pertinent question now runs through the ecosystem. What happens when venture capital alone can no longer sustain growth?
Inside the Fintech Roundtable 2026
That question framed the second edition of the Olaniwun Ajayi Fintech Roundtable, held on 12 May 2026. Its theme was “Exploring Alternative Capital Raising Strategies for Nigerian Tech Companies”.
One message resonated throughout the discussions. Nigerian fintech companies are entering a new funding era. Equity-driven growth strategies alone will not carry them. Instead, the environment demands more discipline and greater sophistication.
What it means for the next phase
Our article highlights the key insights from the Roundtable. It also considers the implications for the next phase of capital raising in the Nigerian technology ecosystem.
The aim is practical. Fintech and technology companies should understand how to future-proof their operations. In addition, they should adopt more structured, diversified and sustainable approaches to raising capital.
