Our article distils the key implications of PSV 2028 for market participants across the financial services ecosystem.
What the Payments System Vision 2028 sets out
On 1 June 2026, the Central Bank of Nigeria engaged fintech industry stakeholders to discuss its newly published Nigeria Payments System Vision 2028.
The Vision sets out Nigeria’s strategic roadmap for modernising and strengthening the payments system. Its overarching objective is clear. By 2028, the country aims to have a secure, inclusive, innovative and globally competitive payments ecosystem.
The guiding principles
PSV 2028 rests on six guiding principles. These are interoperability, security, inclusion and innovation, together with the further principles set out in the Vision document.
Each principle carries practical consequences. Interoperability, for instance, shapes how systems connect to one another. Security and inclusion, meanwhile, determine who can participate and on what terms.
What it means for market participants
The Vision matters well beyond the CBN. Fintech companies, payment service providers and financial institutions all operate inside the framework it describes.
Consequently, market participants should read the roadmap against their own product and compliance plans. Our article examines the key highlights of PSV 2028 and assesses the implications for stakeholders across Nigeria’s evolving digital payments ecosystem.
