Media & Entertainment Law

…a clear ‘magic circle’ Nigerian firm, highly regarded across the market, across the board. - IFLR 1000

Media & Entertainment Law

In this age of content as king, we combine commercial and legal expertise to promote and protect your content interests. Our Entertainment, Leisure and Media Practice group crisscrosses corporate, commercial, intellectual property and litigation interests with an in-depth understanding of the entertainment, media and sports sectors in Nigeria.

While it may be said that Nigerian entertainment law is still fledgeling, we offer extensive services across all commercial aspects of entertainment and media law, key to which are contracts, financing, intellectual property and dispute resolution, all relevant to music, film, television, fashion and other aspects of the creative arts. We draft, review and negotiate recording, publishing, management, distribution, licensing and partnership agreements, as well as devise strategies to help our clients protect their intellectual property rights.

In the music industry, we provide extensive services to music artists, producers, DJs, record labels and entertainment companies. We routinely draft, negotiate and review contracts on behalf of our clients. We recently drafted and negotiated a Record Financing Agreement for a multi-platinum selling RnB recording artist and our team is on hand to cater to other specialist requests.

In film & television, we advise independent film-makers and production companies on all aspects of the production and distribution chain of films and television programs. We carried out a contract review process for the Nollywood film, ‘Surulere’ and are currently acting as legal consultants in the production of a ground-breaking legal television series, Castle and Castle.

On the international front, we recently advised Canal+, a French television company on Nigerian law issues arising from the acquisition of a stake in Nollywood film production group, ROK Studios.
